Sundown Till Dawn Released At Music At The Mission!
The title song from Loretta Hagen''s latest CD , "Sundown Till Dawn", is her most personal recording to date. After her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease five years ago, Loretta and her family became her caregivers, taking turns staying in their mom's home round the clock and dealing with the changes and challenges that come with such a terrible disease. It has been an emotional roller coaster for her family and Loretta's song paints a clear picture of how her mom has suffered, describing a typical day in her life.
Loretta will be joining Jon Stein in the studio at WTBQ on Friday July 11 2008. (The Hootenanny Cafe) airs Fridays at 6PM (est) and Saturdays at 11PM (est) on AM 1110, 99.1FM and
/ or www.wtbq.com
Online is best if folks are located outside of the
Orange County borders. Loretta will also be joined by guitarist Gary Hagen, and back ground vocal singer Sara Gallmann.
Gods of Music Review by: Chris K.
ARTIST: LORETTA HAGEN. SONG: I’M COMING UP. GENRE: FOLK/COUNTRY
FOLK/AMERICANA SIMILAR: MARY CHAPIN-CARPENTER/SHELBY LYNNE/
KIM RICHEY.
I’m Coming Up is Loretta Hagen playing to her strengths and succeeding, magnificently. Loretta falls somewhere between Mary Chapin-Carpenter, Kim Richey, and Shelby Lynne; a songwriter’s songwriter and a passionate performer. Loretta’s intonation, inflections, and diction are the kind you hear from legendary artists. Her ability to weave a story places her squarely in the pristine company of her aforementioned peers.
This is a summer time song, the kind I’d put in the cd changer for the car so that I can go out and tool around the Rocky Mountain canyons. Now I do have an edge here, because I’ve been listening to this song almost daily from the time I first heard it three months ago. I put this in the player along with Emmy Lou Harris, Chris Hillman, Steve Early, Shelby Lynne, and Mary Chapin-Carpenter, set the cruise and settle back for a nice drive. Loretta’s music on this song soars. It’s the kind of song I’d dream of hearing in the background while I lay alongside a Colorado Rocky Mountain stream watching eagles. It has that kind of imagery for me. The harmonies on this recording, provided by Bob Delevante, are tremendously sung. The players Loretta is surrounded with here are studio masters, and the production makes this song perfectly suited for the NPR/PBS crowd. I’d expect to see Loretta perform at any festival in the country where folk, country, bluegrass, and Americana, come together. Is it good enough for commercial radio?...straight up! Matter of fact, this review ends here with this: I cannot think of or hear one single thing I’d change in this song….this is as perfect as it gets for me.

Canadian Radio Acoustic Planet Review
March 05/09
I had taken a stack of recent CD submissions to the office to begin the reviewing and cataloguing process. A big package from Hudson Harding Music included the new Loretta Hagen CD Sundown Till Dawn. As the disc loaded into the computer, I wandered through the liner notes and web-site, looking at the photos of this new (to me), but well established artist and her band without any idea what to expect.
What I got when I opened Sundown Till Dawn was a magnificent voice, tight arrangements, insightful lyrics and a terrific variety of styles, all in 12 well crafted songs. The supporting cast of musicians is superb and the production is crystal clear, but it’s that wonderful alto that will get you.
Sundown Till Dawn is a listening pleasure. The album supports the diverse writing and singing talents of Ms Hagen, ranging through old school “pure” folk (Longing for Home), blues (School Bus Driver), new country (Mirror Mirror) and lyrical (Hello Mountain , Sundown Till Down). And yes, you may detect a touch a Mary Chapin Carpenter in some of the selections. You can find out a lot more about New Jersey ’s Loretta Hagen at www.lorettahagen.com. Buy a CD too, if you’re so inclined. They’re available from the website or CD Baby – you won’t regret it.

Review in Acoustic Live in NYC and Beyond 2008 NERFA CD Finds
Loretta Hagen - Sundown Till Dawn
"2008 has been good to Loretta Hagen. Twelve self-penned songs for that big, Nashville-style voice to ride on.
Many songs are inspirational and seem directed inward for the singer as well as for the listener. Some, like
"Mirror, Mirror," are so brilliantly conceived lyrically, they seemed destined for one of the Nashville biggies to
pick up and have a monster hit. "Mirror, mirror, can you bring love back, mirror, mirror, try / Layered teardrops
blur my reflection, mirror, mirror, lie." Of course, if justice prevails, and the buying public will take to a li'l ol' gal
from New Jersey, Loretta will have the big hit (or two) herself."
