Friday April 17 Loretta opened for Roger McGuinn at Mainstage Concerts in Irvington NY, at the Irvington Town Hall Theater. John Platt of WFUV introduced Loretta "she's building a following there and throughout the Metropolitan area. She writes songs that sound like they can come from the Heartland, but they also really come from the heart." John Platt WFUV 90.7

"Loretta has a magnificent voice and is a terrific performer! Great new CD!"

Loretta Hagen - Sundown Till Dawn
"2008 has been good to Loretta Hagen. Twelve self-penned songs for that big, Nashville-style voice to ride on.
Many songs are inspirational and seem directed inward for the singer as well as for the listener. Some, like
"Mirror, Mirror," are so brilliantly conceived lyrically, they seemed destined for one of the Nashville biggies to
pick up and have a monster hit.
"Mirror, mirror, can you bring love back, mirror, mirror, try / Layered teardrops
blur my reflection, mirror, mirror, lie."
Of course, if justice prevails, and the buying public will take to a li'l ol' gal
from New Jersey, Loretta will have the big hit (or two) herself."
Richard Cuccaro, Acoustic Live in NYC and Beyond Magazine

The title song from Loretta Hagen's latest CD , "Sundown Till Dawn", is her most personal recording to date.  After her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease five years ago, Loretta and her family became her caregivers, taking turns staying in their mom's home round the clock and dealing with the changes and challenges that come with such a terrible disease. It has been an emotional roller coaster for her family and Loretta's song paints a clear picture of how her mom has suffered, describing a typical day in her life.

The song, Sundown Till Dawn, will be included on a soundtrack in a film by Backlight Productions due to be released in Spring of 2010 called "Ten Mountains, Ten Years", about a group of mountain climbers called The Regulars who are climbing ten mountains in ten years to raise awareness for Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.  Loretta's hopes are that her song will help raise awareness and funds for research so that someday, there will no longer be a disease that robs loved ones of their dignity and personality.
Since the early nineties, Loretta Hagen has been writing and performing music that has earned rave reviews for her rich vocals and poignant songwriting. With a style that mixes country, rock and folk music, you could find her performing solo or with her band Down To The Wire, consisiting of Gary Hagen, Debby Maggiulli, Teri Avella, Dave Barry and Sara Gallmann.

CD Review: Sundown Till Dawn – Loretta Hagen

Canadian Radio Review March 05/09

I had taken a stack of recent CD submissions to the office to begin the reviewing and cataloguing process.  A big package from Hudson Harding Music included the new Loretta Hagen CD Sundown Till Dawn.  As the disc loaded into the computer, I wandered through the liner notes and web-site, looking at the photos of this new (to me), but well established artist and her band without any idea what to expect.

What I got when I opened Sundown Till Dawn was a magnificent voice, tight arrangements, insightful lyrics and a terrific variety of styles, all in 12 well crafted songs.  The supporting cast of musicians is superb and the production is crystal clear, but it’s that wonderful alto that will get you.

Sundown Till Dawn is a listening pleasure.  The album supports the diverse writing and singing talents of Ms Hagen, ranging through old school “pure” folk (Longing for Home), blues (School Bus Driver), new country (Mirror Mirror) and lyrical (Hello Mountain , Sundown Till Down).  And yes, you may detect a touch a Mary Chapin Carpenter in some of the selections. You can find out a lot more about New Jersey ’s Loretta Hagen at www.lorettahagen.com.  Buy a CD too, if you’re so inclined. They’re available from the website or CD Baby – you won’t regret it!
